INTRODUCTION

Tumor-associated proptosis is a
typical presenting symptom in
patients with spheno orbital
meningiomas
Report of standardized
evaluation and comparability
of proptosis in patients with
SOM after surgery is rare
Many previous reports have
discussed the optimal surgical
approach, extent of resection, and
the need
for orbital reconstruction
AIM

To add comparable data on proptosis

outcome in the present study and
pooling of proptosis outcome from a
literature review in a patients with
SOM after surgery
METHODS
METHODS

PRESENT STUDY LITERATURE REVIEW

Evaluate data on patient keyword combinations :
characteristics, surgical and “spheno-orbital meningioma,”
reconstruction technique and “exophthalmos,” and “proptosis”
postoperative EI outcome using medline database

Criteria :
• Latest acess on February 2020
• studies using the EI to quantify of
proptosis

CONCLUSION

The EI provides a comparable standard in

evaluation of surgical
outcome in patients with proptosis due to
sphenoid orbital Meningiomas

Surgical treatment is highly

effective in the treatment of patients
with sphenoid orbital meningioma.
CRITICAL
APPRAISAL
Were patient’s demographic characteristics clearly
describe?

Yes, the characteristic of patients in present study

and the initial proptosis in systematic review were
clearly describe

Was the patient’s history clearly described

and presented as a timeline?

No, The authors only shows a value of preoperative

proptosis but there is no showing a previous
patients condition
Was the current clinical condition of the
patient on presentation clearly described?

Yes, the outcome of proptosis after surgery in present

study and literature review were clearly describe

Were diagnostic test or methods and the result clearly described?

Yes, the methods from literature review and the

procedure of proptosis measurement, diagnostic tools
and result of present study were clearly described.
Was the intervention or treatment procedure
clearly described?

Yes, the authors clearly described about the

procedure in this case.

Was the post intervention clinical condition

clearly described?

Yes, post intervention clinical condition described in

follow up after surgery
Were adverse events or unanticipated events
identified and described?

Yes, there is tumor recurrence was present in four

patients and that patients managed by adjuvant
radiotherapy

Does the case provide takeaway lessons?

Yes, from this journal we can get takeaway lessons

about surgical treatment is highly effective in the
treatment of patients with spheno orbital
meningioma and EI provides a standard evaluation
after surgery
