• This Course, ‘Screening for complications in diabetes’, examines the
techniques used to screen people with diabetes for complications and risk factors for co-morbidities. Module 1, ‘Cardiovascular risk factors and targets’, discusses how to screen for dyslipidaemia, hypertension and diabetic nephropathy in people with diabetes, and provides recommendations for target levels for lipids and blood pressure, and how to monitor for kidney function deterioration. In Module 2, ‘Diabetic foot examination’, the importance of regularly performing foot examinations in patients with diabetes is emphasized and the various components that make up a foot examination are explained. A video that illustrates how to perform a diabetic foot exam is also presented. Module 3, ‘Retinopathy screening’, focuses on the progressive nature of diabetic retinopathy and highlights the importance of regular eye examinations to monitor deterioration in retinal function.
