WRITING AN ESSAYS

• An Essays is a piece of writing consist of several paragraphs long.


• It is about one topics, just a paragraph is. However, because the topic of an
essays is too complex to discuss in one paragraph, you need to divide it into
several paragraph, one for each major point.
• Then you need to tie the paragraphs together by adding an introduction and
a conclusion.
(Oshima and Hogue, 2006)
DEFINITION ARGUMENTATIVE
ESSAYS
• “An essay in which you agree or disagree with an issues
using reasons to support your opinion. Your goal is to
convince your reader that your opinion is right (Oshima
and Ann Hogue, 2006: 142)
MECHANIC/GENERIC
STRUCTURE
• An Argumentative essays has three main parts:
• Introduction : Introductory paragraph
• A body : at least one, but usually two or
more paragraphs
• Conclusion : Concluding paragraph
INTRODUCTION
Introduction, consists of two parts :

• General statement: to attract the readers’


attention

• Thesis statement : to state the main idea of


the essays
• A body, consist of one or more paragraphs. Each paragraph
develop a subdivision of the topic.
• It is also called supporting paragraph
CONCLUSION

• Conclusion, is a summary or review of the main points


discussed in the body
