Sea life refers to all the animals, plants and organisms that live in Earth’s saltwater seas and oceans. WHICH ANIMALS ARE THERE IN THE SEA? • FISHES. • REPTILES. • SEA LIONS. • SEALS. • SHARKS & RAYS. • SQUID & OCTOPUSES. • WHALES & DOLPHINS HOW MANY FISHES ARE THERE THAT THE SCIENTIST ESTIMATED? The best estimates by scientists place the number of fish in the ocean at 3,500,000,000,000. THERE ARE 3 TYPES OF SEA LIFE (MARINE LIFE) Plankton – Plankton is the diverse collection of organisms found in water that are unable to propel themselves against a current. The individual organisms constituting plankton are called plankters. In the ocean, they provide a crucial source of food to many small and large aquatic organisms, such as bivalves, fish, and whales.
Nekton - Nekton (or swimmers) are living organisms that
are able to swim and move independently of currents. Nekton is heterotrophic and has a large size range, with familiar examples such as fish, squid, octopus, sharks, and marine mammals.
Benthos -Benthos, also known as benthos, is the community
of organisms that live on, in, or near the bottom of a sea, river, lake, or stream, also known as the benthic zone. WHICH SEA CAN HARM SEA LIFE? The unique salt and chemical content of the waters of the Dead Sea make it toxic upon contact with fish and nearly all marine life. The only living beings that reside in the dead sea are bacteria and an especially hardy species of algae.
