The Shakespeare’s audience was familiar with Christian


teaching about love.

In Matthew 15:8 Jesus quote when He says.

“These people honor me with their lips,


But their hearts are far from me”
THE LOVE TEST

The way Lear formulates his love-test is itself very revealing. He asks:

“which of you shall we say does love most? (Act 1 scene 1)”

What shall Cordelia

space, and liberty," and that her love is of love, only she comes too silent.

As to prove that love is not something which can be


quantified in such an artificial way.

She says:

Love Transformed

Lear undergoes transformation in his understanding


of love.

After much suffering Lear learned the reality of


love.

Their kneeling before one another symbolizes a new


relationship based on humility and trust.
