Reclaiming Joy with Storytelling:
how to embrace digital storytelling as teaching strategy

The video that I selected is very related to this

paper. The professor in the selected video is
director of the Spanish heritage program and
explains that how she uses short films to get
the conversation gets the students talking in the
target language about topics that are important
in today's world. She explains that having
something visual can be helpful and then they
can come back into groups and discuss them in
the target language.
The effectiveness of digital storytelling in
the classrooms: a comprehensive study
Nijat Smeda, Eva Dakich, Nalin Sharda

– The conducted research in the article is in one Australian school

at primary and secondary levels. It has been explained that in the
selected classrooms, students and teachers had the opportunity to
engage in innovative learning experiences based on digital
storytelling.
– As it was discussed in the article, multiple methods of data collection
and analysis were used, and data was collected with qualitative
and quantitative methods. Data collection was guided by a mixed
methods research design in order to evaluate if and how digital
storytelling enhances teaching and learning outcomes.
– The results of the articles suggests that digital storytelling is a
powerful tool to integrate instructional messages with learning
activities to create more engaging and exciting learning
environments. This approach has increased the students’ engagement
and provide better educational outcomes for learners. As you can see
in the paper, the majority of storytelling emphasize the use of
multimedia tools including graphics, audio, video, and animation to
tell a story.

 storytelling as teaching
strategy
– In the video that I choose the teacher uses a lot of creativeness
to use different forms of media to get the students excited about
this course and she does not focus on just a book and grammar.
She explains that a lot of her students get their whole family
involved and get them to speak in the target language
(Spanish), and this can bring their family close together.
Finally, she brings the class back together and share their
thoughts and experiences.

My experience
– The reason that I chose this video, and this
specific article is that I am an
international student and when I started to learn
English as my second language, I tried to watch a
lot of videos, animations, and I tried to read a lot
of stories in English language. Therefore, as my
own experience, digital storytelling was very
helpful to me, and I can confirm that this method
can enhance the students’ learning curve
question

– Here are my questions for the reader of this

article:
– 1- Have you ever had the experience of learning
any new languages? And if yes, do you think
this method was part of your learning
procedure?
– 2- What do you think about the impact of
digital storytelling in learning enhancement?
