Rules

in
Boxing
These rules govern the kind of strikes players may employ,
as well as where they may hit opponents, fouls, and other
match processes. Even the judges have guidelines for
scoring each round.
The Marquess of Queensberry
Rules (Queensbury
Rules)
The Marquess of Queensberry Rules, also referred as the Queensbury Rules, are a set of universally acknowledged boxing rules. Although they
were developed by a Welsh sportsman called John Graham Chambers from Llanelli, Carmarthenshire, and were drafted in London in 1865 and
published in 1867, they were named after the 9th Marquess of Queensberry, who publicly approved the rule. The Queensberry rules, on which
contemporary boxing is founded, were the first to require the wearing of gloves in boxing.
Importance of
Rules in
Boxing
Many regulations regulate boxing in order to
keep the sport fair, safe, and competitive for
competitors. Without clear regulations to govern
the fight, the essence of boxing as a combat
sport may put its competitors in grave danger.
Rules define the kind of strikes participants may
employ, where they can hit opponents, fouls, and
other aspects of the game. Boxing guidelines
differ depending on whether the contest is
amateur or professional.
