Introduction to Network Optimisation &

Petroleum Experts GAP program

EPT, Base Management Specialist Technical Support
Beyond Prosper and MBAL

• Prosper gives us stand-alone well modelling

– Performance calculation
– Detailed Inflow modelling
– Can do flowlines

• MBAL gives us forecasting using Prosper

– Multiple wells, constraints, schedules etc

• GAP adds
– interactions occurring in surface network
• E.g. Back pressures depend on other wells
– Extra equipment
– More extensive constraints, precise control and detailed analysis
Purpose of GAP

• Network modelling
– Determine all pressures, pressure drops, temperatures, rates etc.
from source (reservoir), through wells and flowlines to Separator

destination (tanker or terminal) Export

Riser
• Determining optimal operation

• Forecast future production Flowlines

What do we need?

• Sufficient physical information to model each component

• Sufficient detail in GAP model to obtain realistic pressures,

rates etc.

• Sufficient controls in GAP model to be able to optimise
