• There are different types of data in statistics
which are subjected to collection, followed by
– comprehensive analysis,
– interpretation and
– presentation.
 DIFFERENT TYPES OF DATA
• Data can be categorized as:
– Categorical or Qualitative data and
– Numerical or Quantitative data.
 Qualitative Data or Categorical Data:

• Qualitative data elicits the data which fits into

sections or categories. There is no numerical
aspect in the qualitative data.

The qualitative data consists of variables that elaborate the

features like the person’s gender, qualification, home town etc.
The categorical data can be further classified as follows:

• - Nominal Data
• - Ordinal Data
 Quantitative Data or Numerical Data

• Quantitative data or Numerical Data which is

representative of numbers and its value, like
how many, how often, how much.

Quantitative manner which could include things like weight, size, salary, length and height.
 The numerical or quantitative data can be further segregated as
follows:

• - Discrete Data
• - Continuous Data
