CAMBODIAN MUSIC
• Cambodian music is roughly similar to
that of Java, Indonesia. These feature
choruses with large orchestras based on
struck keys and gongs.
• Absorbed and adopted Indian, Chinese,
European and other cultures to suit to
their own traditions and tastes.
CAMBODIAN MUSIC
• PINPEAT- Cambodian musical ensemble
or an orchestra that usually accompanies
ceremonial music of the royal courts, and
temples. Usually consists of 9 or 10
instruments.
• MUSIC- always part of their court
dances, masked plays, shadow plays and
religious ceremonies.

bamboo flutes,
bowed and plucked
strings.
Gamelan orchestras are used to accompany
dances, songs, and Wayang Kulit.
Are believed to possess supernatural powers.

with the gamelan.

military that took over in 1988.

• Myanmar music melodious and has
similarities with many other musical
traditions in the region, including
Chinese and Thai music
• Musical instruments include the brass se
(which is like a triangle), hne (a kind of
oboe) and bamboo wa, as well as the
well-known saung gauk, a boat-shaped
harp.

• Kertok- musical ensemble that consists of
Xylophones played swiftly and
rhythmically.
3. DIKIR BARAT
• Performed by singing in groups and often
in a competitive manner usually with
percussion instrumental accompaniment
or without instruments at all.
4. SILAT MELAYU
• Form of martial arts that is similar to t’ai
chi. Mixture of martial arts, dance, and
music accompanied by gongs, drums,
and Indian oboes.
