2, 2000, Moscow) was a Soviet and
Russian ophthalmologist, eye
microsurgeon, one of the
participants in the introduction of
radial keratotomy, professor.

• Svyatoslav Fedorov was born in
Proskurov , in Ukraine, in the family of
a serviceman. A few years later, his
father, Nikolai Fedorovich Fedorov, a
former blacksmith, and now a
lieutenant general, commander of a
cavalry division, was transferred to
serve in the city of Kamenetsk-
Podilsky. In this Ukrainian city,

In the hospital, young Fedorov saw a huge number of crippled, surrendered
men who considered their lives over. Overcoming the pain, Svyatoslav
began training and even won swimming competitions among full-fledged
athletes.
At the same time, in the hospital, Fedorov decided on a new profession. In
1945, he began his studies at the Rostov Medical Institute, where he
specialized in ophthalmology. Svyatoslav Nikolaevich carried out his first
operation while still studying at an internship. He managed to save the sight
of a locksmith, who had a piece of an iron chisel stuck in his eyeball

• Academician, scientist Svyatoslav Fedorov made many scientific


discoveries, he owns one hundred and eighty patents for inventions. But its
main achievement is more than three million successfully operated patients.
Fedorov published several fundamental, serious works that allow us to
develop ophthalmology as a science even today. Svyatoslav Nikolaevich
Fedorov was awarded the title of Hero of Labor, he is a holder of orders and
medals, a laureate of various prizes. In 2002, the international professional
community awarded him the title of the Greatest Ophthalmologist.
