HERE YOU HAVE THE FUNCTION OF THE PRESENT PERFECT TENSE.

    The present perfect is used when the time period has not finished:

   I have been in class every day this week

 The present perfect is often used when the time is not mentioned:

 George has lost the competition again

 The present perfect is often used when the time is recent:

Alfred has just arrived in Sidney

The present perfect is often used with for and since.

 David has lived here for 3 years


David has lived here since 2003.

• The present perfect is formed like this:

    have + past participle


TIP: Once you use a past time marker, you
must use past tense. (Ex. I have been to
Mexico last week = NO! I can’t say this. I
have to say, “I went to Mexico last week.” OR
“I have been to Mexico”
“For” is used with duration of time: six weeks,
five years, ten months, two minutes, etc.
“Since” is used with specific points of time:
last night, 2:00, Friday, this morning, etc.
