Step 1: Identify all possible lead and lag performance parameters of M&A

performance, depending upon the nature of the firm, industry, and environment
(industrial, business, political, regulatory, and competitive); categorize them as
situation, actor, process, and performance and customers’ factor

Step 2: Develop M&A performance system cause and effect diagram,

representing all possible parameters, as lead and lag performance parameters,
up to component level.

Step 3: Measure the actual performance; based on vision, mission and objectives,
map the performance parameters (ranging from very low to very high) on M&A
performance landscape representing the variations between actual and targeted
performance.
Step 4: Based on the variations observed on the performance landscape, summarize
the strategic factors needed to be raised, reduced and to be maintained on M&A
performance strategy direction diagram.

Step 5: On the basis of strategy direction diagram, formulate the strategy as a

composition of enterprise and customers factors needed to be changed and to be
continued.

Step 6: Develop performance crystal with enterprise and customers factors needed
to be changed and to be continued.

Step 7: Play the strategy as a game, with the parameters on the performance crystal;
score the performance of the game and reformulate the strategy. Repeat steps 1-6
until the desired score is achieved
