Bo Janssens
Fauve Cornips

Gooik 1873 • more dense coverage by buildings in the centre
Gooik 1950
vs 2022
• Expansion in form of
“verlinting’’

• Lots of green space in

the area but completely
disappears in the

Streetscene:
then vs now
• Predominant parking
needs for the cars with
their passage
• Messy streetscene
• Many different materials,
street profiles, garden
fencing…
Streetscene:
then vs now
• Lack of unity
• Street scene is
dominated by different
pavements
• 1 car vs 7 cars
Streetscene:
then vs now
• Street used to belong to
the people
• there was a more nature
in the streets
• Now the street is full of
cars, there is less greenery,
it is less safe for vulnerable
road users (no cycle paths,
cars on the sidewalk).
• Street only serves as a
thoroughfare
Street edges with open space
Possible green araes
Solution for badly run-down
public space
• Cars dominate the street
• Parking places on the road
• Makes you feel unsafe
• Advertising on facades
Solution for badly run-down
public space • Bringing green back into the
street

• Clear distinction between

public road and sidewalk
 Feeling safer

• Street forms a whole

• First: focus on parking then: square with a high-quality residential
Dorpsplein space  but catering and retail remain absent, so focus is still on
parking.
• Cars do not make the village square inviting for shops and restaurants

lack of unity
