What is a newspaper article ?
• Newspaper article is an article reporting news a daily or weekly
publication on folded sheets; contains news and articles and
advertisements.
Aspects of a newspaper article
• Headline – usually only four or five words. It tries to attract the interest of the
reader by telling them what the story is about, in a short and interesting way.
• By-line – who wrote the article.
• Introduction – It will set the scene and summarise the main points of the article:

• who, what, when, where.

• Body – provides more detail about the event, in particular it answers the questions
how and why.
• Quotes – sometimes articles will include what a person (like an eye-witness or an
expert) has said. These will be in speech marks.
• Photograph and caption – sometimes articles have a photograph, and a sentence
explaining the photograph.
What means are used to communicate ?
• Personal phone calls.
• Mailed letter.
• Email message.
• Web discussion forum.
• Face-to-face discussion.
• Press release.

How to select a title ?
• Know your audience : Keep your audience in mind when drafting a headline.
• SEO optimize :Include a “focus keyword” to help your writing to get discovered in search
engine.
• Create a knowledge vacuum : A headline that leaves the reader wanting more has done its job.
• Solve a problem :After reading a headline, readers may wonder, “Why should I read on?”
Many decide to do so because they believe from the title of the post that you, the author, can
solve their problem.
• Use numbers :People love numbers, especially in headlines. Numbers are something we know
and feel comfortable with; they give us a sense of familiarity and advise our brains on how long
an article may take to read.
