◈ Topics/Issues is presented in the form of an affirmative
statement “That” or “This House”
Example: “That cats are better than dogs,” “This House would
establish a world government.”

◈ Australia-Asia style debates consist of two teams:


"Affirmative" and the "Negative“
The former agrees with the topic while the latter disagrees with
it.

◈ Each team must persuade the adjudicators that
their position on the matter is right and the
opposition is wrong.
◈ It may be appropriate for the audience to select
the debate's victor, depending on the context in
which it is being presented. But in formal
debating, the adjudicator is in charge of selecting
the debate's victor.

◈ Each team has three members

◈ Each of the six speakers (three affirmative and


three negative) speak in succession, beginning
with the first affirmative speaker. The speaking
order is therefore as follows:

-Introduction of debate topic
-Define the Topic
-TEAM SPLIT (introduce your argument or points, followed by
the argument of the 2nd Govt. Speaker then the argument of the 3rd
Govt. speaker)
-Reiterate your argument or point and discuss (you may add
subpoints related to your argument)
-Closing Statement (End strongly, Make an impact!)

◈ Each speaker will be given 3 minutes for their speech
◈ The speaker should not be interrupted in the first and last
minute of the speech.
◈ Short interjections or Points of information, can be done at
the rest of your opponent’s time, these can be questions,
comments, or statements.
◈ No new issues shall be raised in the last speeches.
◈ This warning sound indicates that you only have 1 minute
left for your speech.
◈ This sound indicates that your time is up.

-style of delivery, persuasion skills and conduct of debaters
