 HAD + VERB 3 (POSITIVE SENTENCE)
 HADN’T + VERB 3 (NEGATIVE SENTENCE)
B. TO BE :
 HAD + BEEN (POSITIVE SENTENCE)
 HADN’T + BEEN (NEGATIVE SENTENCE)
 FORMULA
• RESULT CLAUSE IS USING PAST PERFECT FUTURE TENSE

• MODALS (2) + HAVE + VERB 3.

MODALS (2) ARE :
1. WILL (1) – WOULD (2)/WOULDN’T (-)
2. SHALL (1) – SHOULD (2)/SHOULDN’T (-)
3. CAN (1) – COULD (2)/COULDN’T (-)
 REAL SITUATION – IF CLAUSE
• VERBS.
NOTE :
“IF IN REAL SITUATION IS IN NEGATIVE FORM
WHICH IS DIDN’T + V1 FOLLOWED BY
NEGATIVE MODAL (2) + V1, SO THE IF CLAUSE
AND RESULT CLAUSE ARE IN POSITIVE FORM,
INSTEAD ALSO!”

• REAL SITUATION : Negative Real Situation
“I didn’t study hard for the exam and I couldn’t
do it well.”
• IF CLAUSE :
If l HAD STUDIED hard for the exam so l COULD
HAVE DONE it well.
 EXAMPLES

“I slept on the roof and the thief could steal the
bike.”
• IF CLAUSE :
If l HADN’T SLEPT on the roof so the thief
COULDN’T HAVE STOLEN the bike.

“I was not here and she couldn’t take her tears

away”
• IF CLAUSE :
If l HAD BEEN here so she COULD HAVE TAKEN
her tears away.
 EXAMPLE
• REAL SITUATION : To Be Positive Real Situation

“ She was in a trouble and she would ask for her

brother hand”
• IF CLAUSE :
If she HADN’T BEEN in a trouble so she
WOULDN’T HAVE ASKED for her brother hand.
