VIRTUAL TRIP TO

LONDON
LONDON EYE
The London Eye is one of the largest ferris wheels in the world. Located in London (UK).
From a height of 135 meters there is a view of almost the entire city. The Ferris wheel was designed by David
Marx and Julie Barfield, who won the competition for the design of buildings in honor of the third millennium.
The project took six years to implement.
After its construction in 1999-2006, it was the tallest Ferris wheel in the world.

Interesting Facts

More than three million people visit the London Eye every year

In one year, the London eye rotates 2,300 miles, which is the
distance from London to Cairo.

Each capsule weighs 10 tons or a whopping 20,000 pounds.

In 2013, the second capsule was named the coronation capsule to

mark the 60th anniversary of the coronation of Queen Elizabeth II
and provide it with a special plaque.
THEATER “GLOBE”
Not far from the Tate Modern is the
famous "Globe" - a theater in which
William Shakespeare himself played. Of
course, today you can only see the
reconstruction of the original theater, but
its modern look - an open thatched roof
and wooden scaffolds - seem to send us
back to the 17th century. Tours are held
here during the day, and performances
are given in the evening. The theater
poster can be found on the official
website.
MARY-AX TOWER
• Cucumber - that's what the locals call this 180-meter skyscraper. And even
if it is not considered a tourist attraction and there is no observation deck
(only offices), it has become a modern symbol of London and a good
landmark in the city.
Interesting fact
• Despite its rounded shape, the skyscraper is covered with absolutely flat
sheets of glass. Curved details were used only at the very top of the
building. The controversy surrounding the cucumber skyscraper arose at the
design stage. While some believed that the powerful mesh-glass structure
would ruin the decorous appearance of the city, others argued that London
had long deserved architectural changes. The innovators won. The Gherkin
has taken to the skies, admitting thousands of office workers and winning
several architecture awards. The skyscraper has become one of the most
environmentally friendly buildings in the world: thanks to the use of solar
panels, it consumes half the energy of similar buildings. There are several
restaurants and a bar on the upper floors of the skyscraper.
COVENT GARDEN
• Covent Garden, one of London's central
districts, is very popular with tourists,
especially those who enjoy an active cultural
life. It is in Covent Garden that many London
theaters are located, trendy shops, cozy
restaurants and bars, as well as several
interesting museums are located here. One of
the most interesting places in the Covent
Garden area is its market. Many tourists love
it for the opportunity to purchase original
handicrafts at an affordable price. Covent
Garden Market is home to charming British
souvenirs, fashion jewelry, leather goods,
scented soaps, cute knits for kids, sweets,
household items and more.
