One Poll did a survey of 2,000 parents with children aged from 5 to 14 for
online children's education company Byju's. Seven out of 10 parents said that
the ways subjects are taught are more fun today, so children stay engaged
with lessons and learn more.
The survey also asked parents about their own experiences in education, and
how those compared with their children's.
Fifty-eight percent said it was hard for them to stay engaged with learning when they were
children because of how they were taught. Their least favorite ways of learning were
memorizing information, which was chosen by 38%, and reading aloud, which was chosen by
37%. Twenty-eight percent didn't like doing worksheets.
One-third of parents also said that large class sizes made it more difficult for them to learn.
Sixty-five percent even said learning was boring for them — and they said one of the reasons
was not having the choice to learn from home.
Three in five parents now think their children have an easier time learning from home — as
students in the US have had to do because of the COVID-19 pandemic. Almost 40% of
parents said at-home learning lets them give their kids more one-on-one attention, and a
third said it gives children more time to learn the lesson material too.
