Introduction
It is well known that water is a very important substance for the survival
of every living being. this good comes suffering from wear and tear due
to misuse and constant dumping of contaminants that cause instead,
they render its function useless. Water plays an important role as a
livelihood for certain. species, in the production of diverse cultures that
contribute to socio-economic development. beyond consumption itself.
For the elaboration of this article, electronic researches were used, and
direct observation
Mulauze river is located in the Jardim neighborhood, in the KaMubukwana
municipal district. The Mulauze River is a natural source of running water,
with an almost permanent flow that benefits around 2,904 peasants organized
in 15 associations, where they occupy 422 hectares of land, whose
agricultural production represents 40% of consumption in the city of Maputo.
The surface Water used for the irrigation of horticulture in the mulauze
river mainly in the green areas of large urban centers are Often
contaminated by physical, chemical and microbiological, vegetables
especially those consumed raw, when irrigated with such.
The Water Polution in the mulauze river has been caused by human
action and industry, this means that the existing cultures do not develop
and also contamite the soil.
CAUSES OF POLLUTION
Urban garbage The main source of pollution of the Mulauzi River is
liquid waste from urban centers, due to sewage and wastewater not
being properly treated. In addition, surface water from runoff can reach
rivers carrying contaminants such as detergents, oils, fats, plastics.
Consequences
Among the main consequences of the pollution of the Mulauzi River is
the loss of water quality, making it unpalatable. Likewise, it affects
biodiversity that is threatened by toxic substances or eutrophication
processes. River pollution also affects economic activities and
agriculture. Consequently the pollution Water is on off the main, routes
of exposure to various diseases in the man and failure in agricultural
production.
How to mitigate the pollution of the Mulauzi River
Sewage treatment
All urban and industrial wastewater must be properly treated before being
returned to river. For this, it is necessary to establish treatment plants according
to the nature of the waste transported by the waters to be treated.
Proper solid waste management
Solid waste or waste generated in cities and other populated or industrial centers
must be properly processed. It is necessary to establish a system based on the
criterion of the three Rs (reduce, reuse and recycle).
Conclusion
Therefore, it is extremely important to manage this resource in a rational
and sustainable way, because, .when contaminated, water constitutes
one of the main routes of exposure to various diseases in the man and
failure in agricultural production. Any effort made to improve water use
in irrigation practices will contribute to a successful production. This
means that agriculture. May be limited by the availability of good
quality water.
