NX as a Technology Platform

Technology Platform Proven Data

• NX is built on the most modern architecture of any Deployment Preservation
major CAD/CAM/CAE solution

• Every NX release is customer deployment ready

• NX is an open solution that “plugs and plays” with

your existing IT systems

• NX enables you to use data from previous NX and

Industry challenges

Challenges:

• Legacy designs often exist only as drawings,

outdated CAD models or have no documentation at
all.
• Fast, flexible CAD tools to accurately capture (scan)
designs, manipulate that data, and quickly
reconstruct as needed to leverage in downstream
engineering workflows.

Key benefits of NX Reverse Engineering

• Single, integrated, end-to-end workflow support

from scan data handling and CAD reconstruction to
simulation, validation, and manufacturing.
• NX Convergent Modeling allows companies to work
directly with scan data without the need for reverse
engineering.
• Full reverse engineering workflow support within a
robust, parametric modeling system offers
significant productivity gains over competitive
software.

Increase the value of using scan data directly in downstream workflows

Scan data cleanup, preparation, and evaluation with

NX Convergent ModelingTM
• Import scan-line points or scanned point clouds as
facetted mesh data. Various methods can be used
to analyze data quality including: Evaluation of
shape (curvature, analytics), Reflections, Draft, and
Sections. Scan information can also be analyzed
such as cloud density. Visualization of points and
facets is also possible.
• Cleanup facetted point cloud data including:
Snipping, Hole Filling, Smoothing, Remeshing,
Decimation, and Subdivision.
• This process is very dynamic and visual in NX.

Speed up the design process with seamless reuse of mesh geometry

Work directly with scan / mesh data as native CAD Convergent ModelingTM Mesh Scan
geometry, virtually eliminating the need for reverse
engineering in certain workflows.
• Feature based parametric modeling with mesh
geometry – Booleans, Fillets, Chamfer, Drafts.
• Direct use in downstream workflows – Assembly

Analyze Shape
• Register (align) scan to CAD. NX provides tools
such as general transformation and scaling, multi-
mesh alignment, matched point set alignment, and
best fit alignment.
• Measurement and deviation gauge inspection tools
provide the ability to measure differences between
the CAD solid and the scan.

CAD compensation with NX Morphing Solutions

Product CAD shape morphing:

• Create compensated CAD model to tessellated
point cloud.
• Fit CAD model to tessellated point cloud.
• Based on CAE analysis of spring back, die
shrinkage, or real physical product scan.

Significantly speed the design development process with workflow integration
or reuse.

Convergent ModelingTM and Reverse Engineering is

supported extensively across the NX Design to
Production applications, allowing scan / mesh data to
be leveraged directly in Design, Engineering
Simulation, Manufacturing, and Inspection workflows.
