• The use of sodium carbonate is to ensure that the caffeine and organic
acids are depronated.It will extract the ionic salts from the organic phase
and caffeine will be left alone.Also, it can abstract all the ionic
components and removing all protons attached to organic compound.
• B. Anhydrous sodium sulphate
The use of anhydrous sodium sulfate is to absorb the small
amount of water that is dissolved in the dichloromethane
and small amounts of water from aqueous layer that may
have gotten into the flask by accident.

OF DICHLOROMETHANE AS AN EXTRACTION
