ABS(Anti lock brake system)

The anti - lock braking system is a braking system on
the car to prevent wheel locking when sudden / hard
braking occurs .
Purpose Or Definition

Anti - lock Brake System or ABS is a braking system on vehicles

to improve safety and driving safety . The ABS system is
embedded in the motorcycle so that during sudden braking
the motorcycle does not slip or get stuck when the road
conditions are wet or slippery .
TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT
Sensor speed
• This speed sensor works to calculate the number of wheel revolutions that will be
converted into vehicle speed . The speed sensor is located in the knuckle or drive
shaft housing on all 4 wheels .

Brake booster
•Brake booster works to help relieve the load / force the driver when applying the
brakes by utilizing the vacuum from the engine when the engine is running or using
hydraulic pressure .

Hydraulic Unit .
• The ABS system generally combines a pump and controller in one component ,
which functions to retrieve vehicle condition data ( including the movement of the
brake pedal ) and then regulates the distribution of fluid pressure ( brake fluid ) to
each wheel .
Working Step.
The way ABS works is that when the driver applies the
brakes , the hydraulic unit will read all vehicle data and
then instruct the pump to distribute the brake fluid
pressure according to the condition of the vehicle in
each tire .
• This computerized effect of adjusting brake fluid
pressure based on the actual condition of the vehicle
helps to reduce vehicle speed quickly without looking
the tires so that the vehicle remains easy to control .
STRENGTH AND WEAKNESSES
The advantages of ABS brake system

1. The brakes are very gripping and convincing if the vehicle

is running on a flat surface , or on asphalt The vehicle
wheels will not lock when braking .
2. The vehicle is easy to control when braking suddenly .

• Disadvantages of ABS Brake system

1. The vehicle is difficult to stop when braking on a gravet

or uneven road , so the vehicle is difficult to stop optimally .
2. When the brakes are wet or walking on an uneven
road , the brakes become unstable and sometimes make a
grinding ABS brakes can work optimally .
Suggestion

The ABS brake system that works is supported

by a hydraulic system , so that in this system
the fluid must not be lacking or exhausted
and there must be no air entering the fluid
channel because it will interfere with system
performance .
