Main Teaching points / Whole Class Activities:

Starter: Prior knowledge: Quick recap of persuasive text and features.

 Students will read the non-fiction text on page 9 of their learner’s book. 
 Discussion based on the text.
  Teacher to explain the importance of sub-headings in a non-fiction text. (It helps the
reader to find information more quickly).
 Next ask students to do Ex-1 on page 9, in their learner’s book itself. Identify which
sub-heading would tell you about: swimming, cycling, running.
 Students will be asked to turn to page 4 of their learners’ book and compare and
contrast the text on page 4 to the text on page 6. Let students come up with answers of
what are the similarities and differences between the two text.
Reinforcement of Adverbs
 Show the students the below link explaining what ADVERBS are along with
examples.

 Next, share the reinforcement worksheet with ADVERBS on it and make the
students do the exercise on ADVERBS. Students will only write the correct option
down in their rough note books.

 Once all students have completed the task, the answer key can be shared for
students to do their self-assessment.
Independent Tasks:
 Activity 1
 Make a list of sub-headings you would use if you were reading a non-fiction text
about ‘going to the park’. Do this work in your note book.

 Activity 2:
  Look at the text on page 4 of your learner’s book. Make a list of all the sub-headings
you can think of related to the text. Do this work in your note book.

 Activity 3:
 Make a list of all the sub-headings you could think of for an outdoor activity with your
friends.
 Do this work in your note book.
Plenary:

Discussion of today’s lesson. Share your


work with the class. Students read out
their sub-headings and the rest of the
class evaluates the work.
Homework:

 Reading for pleasure: Read page 7 of


your learner’s book for 10 minutes and
think about some sub-headings for the
text.
