We are going to compare Gujarat and Chhattisgarh on the basis of :-

 Historical background.

 Comparison of population of both the state that is religious wise ,caste wise , and
district wise.

 Demographic Comparison of both the state that is birth rate , death rate and infant
mortality rate.

 Comparison of data related to literacy rate of both the state.

Gujarat
The history of Gujarat began with Stone Age
settlements followed by Chalcolithic and
Bronze Age settlements like Indus Valley
Civilisation. After the fall of the Gupta empire
in the 6th century, Gujarat flourished as an
independent Hindu/Buddhist state. Gujarat
draws its name from the Gujarat (supposedly a
subtribe of the Huns), who ruled the area
during the 8th and 9th centuries. Gujarat came
under the administration of the British East
India Company in 1818. The state assumed its
present form in 1960, when the former
Bombay state was divided between
Maharashtra and Gujarat on the basis of
language.
Chhattisgarh
Chhattisgarh was under Maratha rule from
1741 to 1845 CE. It came under British rule
from 1845 to 1947 as the Chhattisgarh
Division of the Central Provinces .The
history of the Chhattisgarh region dates
back to about the 4th century , when it
was known as Southern (or South) Kosala.
The name Chhattisgarh, meaning
“thirty-six forts,” was formerly applied to
the territory of the Haihaya dynasty of
Ratanpur, founded about 750.The
mythological history of the state can be
traced back to the days of Mahabharata
and the Ramayana. The Haihaya dynasty
ruled Chhattisgarh for six centuries during
the 14th century. During the middle ages,
Chalukya dynasty established its rule in
Bastar. Annmdev was the first Chalukya
ruler, who founded the dynasty in Bastar in

Of Population
Gujarat
Religion wise, Hinduism is the major religion
of the Gujarat state, According to 2011 census
88.57% belong to Hinduism, followed by
Muslim with 9.6%. Christianity, Buddhism,
Jainism and Zoarstrism are represented with
below 2% of population.
Caste wise, The SC’s constitute 21.8% of the
population , The OBC’s constitute around
19.1% of the population and 4.8% are others
District wise, Gujarat state has 33 districts,
Ahmedabad and Surat are the largest districts
by population with 8 million and 6 million.
Kutch district(Kachchh) located in north
western part of Gujarat and is the largest
district by area of 45,652 sq km.
Chhattisgarh
Religion wise, Hindu is the largest religion with
93.25% follows Hinduism, followed by Muslim
and Christian with 2% each, Sikh, Buddhist and
Jain are below 1%.
Caste wise, There are 12.82% Scheduled Caste
(SC) and 30.62% Scheduled Tribe (ST) of total
population in Chhattisgarh.
District wise, Chhattisgarh state is formed with
16 districts in 2000, Currently the state is
further divided into 27 districts. By
Chhattisgarh district wise population, Raipur
and Bilaspur is the populous state with 2
million, followed by Durg, Janjgir-Champa,
Rajnandgaon and Raigarh with around 1.5
Million each.

Conclusion

Both the states have their own cultural identities and historical backgrounds making them what they are
today. They both are developing with their own pace. The amount of literate population is more in
Gujarat as compared to Chhattisgarh as Chhattisgarh lacks proper educational infrastructure but
government is launching programs to enhance the educational scenario. Both the states are composed
of people belonging to different religion and different castes.
