WHAT IS FLOOD ?
 Floods are natural incidents where a dry area
or ground is usually suddenly soaked into
water.
 The overflow of rivers, lakes and oceans or
because, in many respects, excessive rain
causes flooding.
CAUSES OF FLOODS ?

 There are three major causes which creates floods. These are:
 Rain
 Lake and coastal flooding and
 Dam Breakage
HOW FLOODS CAUSES WATER
POLLUTIONS ?
 Floods tend to further degrade already
degraded systems. Removal of vegetation
in and around rivers, increased channel
size, dams, levee banks and catchment
clearing all work to degrade the hill
slopes, rivers and floodplains and
increase the erosion and transfer of both
sediment and nutrients.
SYLHET FLOODS 2022
 Due to heavy rainfall in the Indian state
of Assam and Arunachal Pradesh, the
flood water of Surma, Kushiyara and
other rivers overflowed, causing severe
flooding in Greater Sylhet.
CAUSE
 From 11 May 2022, heavy rains and mountain
slops continue. Due to this, flood started in
Sylhet. The Surma, Sari, Dhalai, Kushiyara
flows through the interior of the district and
the water flows through the danger zone at
each point. As a result, the lowlands are
inundated anew. According to the experts, the
river navigability crisis and the construction of
unplanned dams are responsible for the flood
situation.
CASUALITIES
 This flood left at least 41 people killed and
four million stranded. Suitable agricultural
lands in Sylhet are submerged. In the
submerged lands, there were Aus paddy,
Boro crop and summer vegetable which were
seedbeded with total area of 4359 hectares
lands that wasn’t spared from the floods. The
teaching activities of 640 educational
institutions have been disrupted.
CONCLUSIONS
 Finally we can say that the flood situation of The Greater Sylhet in 2022 is The
heavy rainfall in the Indian state of Assam and Arunachal Pradesh is responsible
for this. In every year, Our neighbor country India using all the river as a drainage
system by building so many Dams in the river. They didn’t give us fresh water as we
demand and block the water flow as they want. In the rainy season, they open the
dams gates and overflowed water causes severe flooding in all over Bangladesh.
 If there is any solution about this, then we will suggest to destroy unnecessary dams
which creates block in the main road of a river and creates so many problems.
 Finally our government should solve the navigability problem in all the river and
build some well planned dams which can reduce the casualities of the floods.
