REACTANTS
•Oxygen and glucose are both reactants of
cellular respiration. Oxygen enters the
body when an organism breathes. Glucose
enters the body when an organism eats
PRODUCTS
The end products of cellular respiration are carbon
dioxide, water and energy. Carbon dioxide is
transported from your mitochondria out of your cell,
to your red blood cells, and back to your lungs to be
exhaled. ATP is generated in the process. When one
molecule of glucose is broken down, it can be
converted to a net total of 36 or 38 molecules of ATP.
This only occurs in the presence of oxygen.
CHEMICAL REACTION OF CELLULAR
RESPIRATION
Cellular respiration is represented by
the chemical formula:

C6H12 + 6O2 6CO2 + 6H2O +

energy (as ATP).
The Importance of Cellular
Respiration
Importance of cellular respiration in our
daily life
• All living things, including humans, plants, animals, birds,
and insects, engage in cellular respiration. It is necessary
for our daily lives because this metabolic process aids in
the production of energy through glucose breakdown and
is also engaged in various bodily metabolisms.
