INTI RAYMI OR THE FEAST OF THE

SUN
THE INTI RAYMI FESTIVAL ALLOWS TO BE
PART OF A CULTURAL RITUAL OF GREAT
VALUE FOR THE ANDEAN INDIGENOUS
PEOPLES. IT IS A FESTIVAL IN HONOR OF THE
SUN GOD, WHICH IS CELEBRATED ON JUNE 24
OF EACH YEAR, SINCE IT IS A WINTER MONTH
IN THE ANDES OF THE PERUVIAN HIGHLANDS
(CUSCO).

Andean products
In the celebration the traditional Pambamesa is made, which
consists of various foods on a white tablecloth that are consumed
by all the participants of the party. (Corn, olluco, bean and
other.) It is one of the main festivals with potatoes, beans,
mellocos, ocas and other products.

Roast guinea pig with potatoes.


The consumption of meat in indigenous rituals is reserved for
parties of transcendence in gratitude to mother earth. It is for this
reason that the communities prepare guinea pig with great
dedication to offer an extraordinary dish whose flavor is
incomparable.
Guarango, ceremonial drink.

The drink is prepared with water extracted from an Agave


plant. Only Agaves older than 15 years can be used to
extract the natural sweet liquid, which is subsequently
fermented, at least two days, to obtain the guarango.

Chicha de Jora. It is an ancient drink that uses sprouted corn for about 7
days. It has been consumed since pre-Inca times and is
considered sacred. Various communities drink them at
any time or place. Well, it was the most important drink
for the Incas.
TRADITIONAL DANCES OF THE INTI RAYMI
FESTIVAL

The dances give great showiness and color to the staging of the Inti
Raymi. Each of them brought dances dedicated to the sun and the
harvest that is created each year.

For example, the Chinchaysuyo exhibited Huacones and Kachampa;


while the Contisuyo, the dance of the Alwi. This showiness is
complemented with offerings to the Sun, such as replicas in gold, silver,
animals existing in their regions and samples of their crops.
THE CUSQUEÑOS AND THEIR LOVE FOR INTI RAYMI

The people of Cusco are very welcoming and sociable, they like
to teach their culture abroad. Likewise, the population is very
serious when it comes to making a payment to the Pachamama
or paying homage to the Sun God.

Traveling to the city of Cusco and experiencing these festivities


is the most extraordinary thing that can happen to you in life,
because there is no other better culture than the Incas.
