• She was Indian political
activist,feminist and poet.
• She was the important person in
India's struggle for independence
from colonial rule.
• She was the first Indian women to be
president of the Indian National
Congress and to be appointed as
governor of an Indian state.
• She married Govindaraju Naidu, a
physician,whom she met during her
stay in England

She was born on 13 February 1879,


Hyderabad.
She died on 2 March 1949, Lucknow.
Naidu died of cardiac attack at 3:30 p.m.
(on 2 March 1949 at the Government
House in Lucknow.
EARLY AGE:

• She was born in Bengali Family in


Hyderabad.
• She was the eldest of eight sisters
• Her father was Aghorenath Chattopadhyay
and her mother was Sundari Devi
• She passed her matriculation examination
to qualify for University study by earning
highest rank.
• From 1895 to 1898 she studied in England at King's
College,London and then Girton College, Cambridge with a
scholarship from the Nizam of the Hyderabad.

• Chattopadhyay returned to Hyderabad in 1898.That same year,


she married Govindaraju Naidu, a physician,-whom she met
during her stay in England.
Major Works:
• HE WAS THE POPULAR ORATOR(GOOD AT
PUBLIC SPEAKING) PROMOTING INDIAN
INDEPENDENCE AND WOMEN'S RIGHTS
• She addressed the Indian National Congress and the
Indian Social Conference in Calcutta in 1906.
• Her social work for flood relief earned her the Kaisar-
i-Hind Medal in 1911
• With muthulakshmi reddyhelped established the
Women's Indian Association in 1917
• She also supported the Lucknow Pact, a joint Hindu–
Muslim demand for British political reform, at the
Madras Special Provincial Council
• After 1917, she joined Gandhi's satyagraha
movement of nonviolent resistance against British
rule
• Naidu went to London in 1919 as a part of the All
India Home Rule League for freedom from the
british rule
• The next year, she participated in the non-
cooperation movement in India.
• In 1924, Naidu represented the Indian National
Congress at the East African Indian National
Congress
• She joined the salt march with other female activists
• She participated in second round table conference
• The first biography of Naidu, Sarojini Naidu: a Biography by Padmini
Sengupta, was published in 1966. A biography for children, Sarojini
Naidu: The Nightingale and The Freedom Fighter, was published by
Hachette in 2014.
• In 1975, the Government of India Films Division produced a twenty-
minute documentary about Naidu's life, "Sarojini Naidu – The
Nightingale of India", directed by Bhagwan Das Garga.
• In 2020, a biopic was announced, titled Sarojini, to be directed by
Akash Nayak and Dhiraj Mishra, and starring Dipika Chikhlia as
Naidu.
Overview

Throughout her career, Sarojini Naidu worked for the dignity of the common man and the education and
emancipation of women by actively encouraging the setting up of orphanages and schools for girls. She
also urged the student community to stand united against racial and communal discrimination.She
believed the day Indians eradicate their differences and find a common ground, we will surely find
harmony and success.
CONCLUSION
She was an important figure in India's struggle for
independence from colonial rule.

She had face many problems,but she never gave


up.So in today's time,she is a source of inspiration
for all women.
