INTRODUCTION TO THE WOMEN REFORMERS:
The topic women reformers in basically dedicated to the brave women who fought for their right to attend school ,
educate themselves and other women and be treated the same way as men during the nineteen hundreds
There are numerous women who fought for their rights and freedom they deserve during the nineteen hundreds
But for now , we will know about the two great women reformers in the nineteen hundreds

THE WOMEN REFORMERS
STARTING WITH:
• Who was she ?
Pandita Rama bai was a known pioneer in the field of
women reformation, A social activist who wanted to change
the fate of women in the 19th century.
• What made her do this ?
Pandita RAMA bai She decided on helping the young widows who are
uneducated because she became a widow at a young age .
Back story of Pandita Rama bai: she was Her own experience as a widow led her to work for the
home schooled by her father who is welfare of widows.
Sanskrit scholar and he taught her
Sanskrit at home. She was born on April
23rd 1858 and was married on 1880.

Arya MAHILA Samaj
• The Arya MAHILA Samaj was started on 30TH November 1882, by Pandita Rama bai with the aim of empowering educating each
woman for leading a dignified life.
• The inaugural meeting was attended by 150 women.
• On the first day,16 woman members were enrolled.
• They are in their 136th year and Arya MAHILA Samaj has turned into a trust.
• They have opened a hostel for girls .
• They gave scholarships to under privileged girls and woman
• Asavari Paridkar is one of the trustee of the Arya MAHILA Samaj Trust

• Rama bai began her social work with Arya Mahila Samaj in Poona.
• Later she established in Sharda Sadan, a school for Indian widows, in Bombay.
• Rama Bai’s greatest contribution was her effort to educate the widows and she left behind her pupils to carry her work
forward.
Sarojini Naidu
• She was born on 13 February 1879.
• She was born in a Bengal family.
• She was married in 1898 to her husband was Govindarajulu Naidu
• Sarojini Naidu was a well-known social reformer who fought for women and she was associated with All India Women’s
Conference in 1927.
• The movement for the liberation of women also got stimulus from the rise of nationalism in the 20th CE.
• She left us on 2nd March 1949.

All India Women’s Conference:-
• The All India Women's Conference (AIWC) was founded in 1927 in Pune in order to promote women and children's education and
social welfare.
• The first meeting held in Poona saw 2,000 attendees who met at the Fergusson College Hall on Poona University.
• Most of the attendees were observers, but others were women that Cousins had brought together to help create the AIWC.
• Amrit Kaur was one of the founding members of AIWC.
• Maharani Chimnabai Gaekwad was the president of AIWC in 1927

• One of the first secretaries of AIWC was Kamaladevi Chattopadhyay

• Beginning in 1928, AIWC began to raise money to open the Lady Irwin College of Domestic Science
• AIWC was registered in 1930 under the Societies Registration Act, XXI of 1860.
• The organization also expelled members who were associated with Communist groups in 1948
• The All India Women's Conference was founded in Pune.
• The participation of many women leaders in different social movements like swadeshi movement and the participation in
the movements of Gandhi ji has contributed their liberation.

• The efforts of all these social reformers of the nineteenth and twentieth century have taken their place and took their
spot in history.
• Different sorts of changes have occurred after they realized their state in society …..... it's safe to say that the British
did some good at least
