CROSS HALVING DEFINITION:
• Consists of two pieces of the same thickness that fit together in a cross
shape. 
• Also known as a half lap joint.
CHARACTERISTICS:
• Strong against sideways forces.

• Relies on glue to hold it together,


a dowel may be incorporated to
provide more strength. 

• Simple and quick to mark out


and cut. 
ADVANTAGES:
• Easy to mark out.
• Minimal equipment.
Resists
• Quick to make. forces
well
• Is strong against lateral
forces.
• Can be reinforced with
dowel.
DISADVANTAGES:
• Relies on friction and glue for
strength. Weak to
upward
• Mostly loadbearing strength. and
• Functional rather than a downward
forces
design feature.
