1. PREVIOUS KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND OSERVATIONS

Previous Knowledge

Using sliding set squares

Good sketching skills. Basic communication using notes.

Very good identification skills of triangles and angles.

Previous Skills

Very limited experience with compass and need to become more comfortable with angles.

Teacher Observations

Very mixed ability class. Many students will not work unless they are individually prompted.

2. LESSON RATIONALE

Brief outline of WHY this content is the basis of the lesson, and why these teaching KEY*
methodologies were selected- a justification.

Communication skills RL
Ability to communicate using images and sketching – no language. Revision of the topic so
far as well.

Angles using a protractor

The students need to practice setting angles using the protractor. They struggle to measure
from the correct side of the equipment and need to become faster and more accurate.
NL
Using the protractor to create triangles.
This is one of 2 ways that the students may be asked to draw triangles. Very important they
can calculate the measurements and apply to their drawings.
