NATIONALISM:
National symbol
Dr. Jose Rizal is the country’s well-known national hero but nonetheless belongs to the
unofficial national symbol category. However, this does not make him less of a symbol of
the Philippines. Rizal’s name elicits the name of our country internationally. The
monuments built by people in countries where he had been and his books in foreign
libraries bear the name of the Philippines.

THAT REFLECT THE IDEAS OF NATIONAL UNITY AND
SOVEREIGNITY AS WELL AS PHILIPPINE TRADITIONS AND IDEALS.

NATIONAL SOLIDARITY. WITH THIS, A COUNTRY HAS THEIR OWN
NATIONAL SYMBOLS TO IDENTIFY THEMSELVES FROM OTHERS
AND TO UNITE ITS
CITIZENS THROUGH NATIONALISM.

The Philippine Flag

The flag stands as a major symbol of a nation. It has


four colors. They are red, white, blue and yellow.

Pearls evoke elegance and distinction. They are a source


of incomparable joy. In the Philippines, the Golden
South Sea Pearl is a national gem. This highly prized
wonder of nature from our tropical shores symbolizes
the embodiment of the country's tradition and culture.

The Philippine Eagle is a large bird of prey,


strong and fearless. It represent the
Philippine as a solid and stable nation.

National Sport: Arnis

Arnis is to the Philippines like Japan’s Karate and


Korea’s Taekwondo. It’s both a martial art and a sport
whose origins are still largely unconfirmed because of
lack of documentation.

• National animal.

The domesticated carabao is persevering, industrious,


and strong. These are the qualities that Filipinos
possess.
Bahay -kubo

• National house.

It is built from nipa and bamboo and is usually


seen in the barrios.
MANGGA

• National Fruit.

This very delicious fruit has a smooth


skin. It is given when unripe and yellow
when ripe.
barong tagalog and baro't saya

National costume.

The barong-Tagalog is worn by men while the


Baro't Saya is worm by women during
important occasions.

National fish.

The milkfish has a sparkling scales; its


flesh has a deliciously exquisite taste.

National Dance

The Cariñosa is a Philippine dance of colonial-era


origin from the Maria Clara suite of Philippine folk
dances, where the fan or handkerchief plays an
instrumental role as it places the couple in a
romance scenario.

National Game

Sipa is the Philippines' traditional native sport


which predates Spanish rule. The game is
related to Sepak Takraw.

Philippine National Leaf, Anahaw or


Anahau (Livistona rotundifolia) is an
erect round-leaf fountain palm that
grows natively and widely in the
islands of the Philippines

An admirable and brilliant writer and doctor, Rizal


wrote the novels Noli me Tangere and El
Filibusterismo which opened the minds or many
Filipino to fight for freedom from foreign
colonizers.
