TOPIC: Philippine Constitution

Instruction: In 5-10 sentences each, answer the following items.

1. What is the importance of Constitution? (10 points)

It makes sure that the state's authority is divided among various entities and people and
that citizens' rights are respected. A country's constitution serves as the framework for
government, which is crucial to ensuring that everyone's demands and interests are met.

2. What are the salient features of the 1987 Constitution? Give a brief explanation of each
feature. (50 points)

1. Recognition of the aid of the Almighty God: Preamble - It conveys strong messages
regarding our significant obligations to each and every Filipino as well as our
community. As a free country, we have a responsibility to act and use our freedom
responsibly, putting our love of our land, peace, and togetherness as our main
priorities.
2. Sovereignty of the people: Art. II, Sec.1 - Serving and safeguarding the people is the
primary responsibility of the government. All citizens may be forced to provide
personal military or civil service under the criteria set forth by law in order to satisfy
the government's demand for the people to defend the State.
3. Guarantee of human rights - The bill of rights is a parcel of the Constitution which
records the fundamental rights of an individual from infringement by the legislature,
by any individual ,or by any group of people. It in this manner constrains the powers
of the government. The way that others have similar rights in like manner restrains
how we exercise our rights.
4. Duties and Responsibilities of Filipino Citizen: Article IV (Citizenship) and Article V
(Suffrage) – Citizenship is a relationship between an individual and a state to which
the individual owes allegiance and in turn is entitled to its protection. Each state
determines the conditions under which it will recognize persons as its citizens, and
the conditions under which that status will be withdrawn. Suffrage may be exercised
by all citizens of the Philippines not otherwise disqualified by law, who are at least
eighteen years of age, and who shall have resided in the Philippines for at least one
year and in the place wherein they propose to vote for at least six welfare and
literacy initiatives as well as defend the country in times of war while undergoing
training in any of its three (3) program components. ROTC, CWTS and LTS

3. What is Bill of Rights? (15 points)

Article III of the Philippine Constitution is the Bill of Rights. It establishes the relationship of the
individual to the State and defines the rights of the individual by limiting the lawful powers of the
State.
SEC. 1. No person shall be deprived of life, liberty, or property without due process of law,
nor shall any person be denied the equal protection of the laws.
SEC. 2. The right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects
against unreasonable searches and seizures of whatever nature and for any purpose shall
be
inviolable, and no search warrant or warrant of arrest shall issue except upon probable
cause
to be determined personally by the judge after examination under oath or affirmation of the
complainant and the witnesses he may produce, and particularly describing the place to be
searched and the persons or things to be seized.
