Wide Field Sensor (WiFS),
Linear Imaging Self-Scanning
Sensor(LISS).

Optical Mechanical Scanner
 An optical mechanical scanner is a multispectral
radiometer by which two dimensional imagery can
be recorded using a combination of the motion of
the platform and a rotating mirror scanning
perpendicular to the flight direction.

 Optical mechanical scanners can be carried on

polar orbit satellites or aircraft. Panchromatic
Camera(PAN),Wide Field Sensor (WFiS) and
Liner Imaging Self-Scanning Sensor (LISS) of IRS
are the examples of optical mechanical scanners.
Panchromatic Camera(PAN)
 The data in the panchromatic region is useful in
geological studies for mapping geological and
geomorphological features.

 Higher spatial resolution will be useful for urban planning

studies, detecting urban fringe growth, updating the
urban transport infrastructure etc.

 Stereoscopic image pair obtainable by PAN can be used

for topographic studies and generation of digital terrain
models.
 PAN BANDS:

 PAN SPECIFICATION:
Wide Field Sensor (WiFS)
 This sensor is most useful for vegetation studies.

 With larger swath (770 Km), high

repetivity ( 5 days) and operation
in two vegetation specific bands,
the sensor provide vegetation index
at regional level, thus helping in
assessment of crop condition and
drought monitoring.
 WiFS BANDS:

 WiFS SPECIFICATION:
Linear Imaging Self-Scanning Sensor(LISS)
Linear Imaging Self-Scanning Sensor is a remote sensing satellite
camera from ISRO, India. It has 4 bands.
