AIMS:

The purpose of this presentation is:

To discuss and elaborate on the

different types of Foam Making
Equipment used in the Mauritius
Fire and Rescue Service (MFRS).
OBJECTIVES:
At the end of the session, you should
be able to :
 List the different equipment required
to make foam.
 Describe the low, medium & high
expansion foam making equipment
used in the Fire Service
List of equipment required:
• Pump to impart energy
• Hose to deliver water
• Means of inducing foam
concentrate
• Means of aerating the solution.
• Foam making branches to project
foam onto the fire.
Low Expansion branch pipe ( LX)

• Portable low expansion foam-

making branch pipes are used in
mobile hose lines and are suitable to
produce a low expansion foam for
extinguishing fires of flammable
liquids or of solid materials.
FB5X foam making
branchpipe
The FB5X is made of light weight aluminium
alloy and is easy to handle for first line
appliances. It will operate from water
supply of 230 l/min at 5.5 bar.
Medium expansion
branchpipe
MX Foam Making Branch
• Medium expansion foam making
branches have higher flow
requirements and hence produce
greater amounts of foam.
• Flow: 600-1800 LPM at 2.5 bars
• Expansion ratio: 1:40
High Expansion Foam
Generator
Foam Generator
• Delivers large quantity of
expanded foam by blowing air
through a screen.
• Because of high expansion ratio, it
requires less water.
Variable Inline Inductor
• The Inline foam inductors are
designed to feed foam concentrate at
a set mixing rate into the hose line.
• Inductors are placed in the delivery
line between the pump and the foam
nozzle and can be used for medium
and also for heavy foam nozzles.
The venturi system creates a
vacuum in the body of the inductor
and the foam concentrate is picked
up via a suction hose with a
coupling.
Advantages
Generally cheapest induction
system
Simple & robust
Quick deployment
Easy to clean up.
Disadvantages:
• Inductor must be match to
foam making equipment.
• Pressure losses in excess of
30%
• Accuracy of proportioning
will vary with pressure.
