Discovery Of Nucleus

Ernst Rutherford 1911

The Geiger–Marsden
experiments (also called
the Rutherford gold foil
experiment) were a
landmark series
of experiments by
which scientists learned
that every atom has
a nucleus where all of
its positive charge and
most of its mass is
concentrated.

Discovery of Neutron

Sir James Chadwick, (20 October 1891 –

24 July 1974) was an
English physicist who was awarded the
1935 Nobel Prize in Physics for
his discovery of the neutron in 1932
Size of the Nucleus

The diameter of the nucleus is in the range of 1.70 fm(in H)-11.7fm (in U)

Much smaller than the diameter of the atom (53pm in H – 156pm in U)
