• When Kate Chopin was a little girl,
she lost the majority of her closest
family.

• When she was a young girl, her


father passed away, and her mother
and spouse passed away quickly.

• She was left alone to manage their


five children after her husband's
death.
She came from a very well-off family and

felt the need to write and become more

independent after her husband passed

away, especially since she had no

remaining close family members after the

loss of her mother.


Her work
In the 1890s, Kate Chopin released two novels and

about a hundred short stories.

Her best-known works primarily center on the

lives of perceptive, bright women, and the

majority of her fiction is set in Louisiana.
