ACCULTURATION:-
 It is a cultural process in which one group or person with
one culture adopts cultural values or traits of another
culture when they are continuous contact.
 still retaining their own distinct culture.
 Most commonly it is discussed regarding a minority
culture adopting the elements of the majority culture
IT IS A TWO
WAY PROCESS
 SOMETIMES THE MAJORITY CULTURE OFTEN ADOPT ELEMENTS OF
MINORITY CULTURES WITH WHICH THEY ARE CONTACT .

ACCULTURATION FACTOR:-
I. SOCIAL FACTORS :- DOMINANCE, NON DOMINANCE, SUBORDINATION
ASSIMILATION,PRESERVATION,COHESIVENESS,ATTITUDE

II. AFFECTIVE FACTORS :- LANGUAGE SHOCK , CULTURE SHOCK, MOTIVATION,


EGO.
ASSIMILATION:-
IT IS A OUTCOME OF
ACCULTURATION.
IT IS A CULTURAL PROCESS IN
WHICH MINORITY GROUP OR
PEOPLE ADAPTS THE CULTURE
,BEHAVIOR,BELIEFSAND
RELIGION OF THE HOST
NATION MAJORITY GROUP

EG:- Immigrants who have migrated to new locations.


It often leads to changed or hide elements of their own
culture. like food , language ,clothing,spiritual practices.
Which helps them to adopt the values and social behaviour
of the dominant culture
Those who advocate for
the cultural assimilation
 It decreased conflict.
 Contributes to the more cohesive identity.
 Increase the social and economic opportunities
For minority individual.
it suggests that-
 It contributes to loss of the culture.
 Damages peoples self confidence and self esteem
 It leads to discrimination and violence.
