Ruskin Bond was born in 1934 at Kasauli , in Himachal
Pradesh. He is considered to be an icon among Indian writers and children’s authors and a top novelist. His first novel, THE ROOM ON THE ROOF , was published in 1956. He authored SUMMARY Arun , a young man of 25, was a writer. He earned his living by writing books or articles. He was a large hearted and simple man. Once, when he was a watching a wrestling match, a young boy named Hari Singh approached him and expressed his desire to serve him. He said that he would cook for him. Anil believed him and gave him a job. Hari Singh was an expert thief and used to change his name and place to avoid the police and his old employers. He used to make money while buying supplies for him . One day, he got a chance to steal Anil’s money, from under the mattress. He ran away to go to another place by train . But at the railway station, his inner voice made him restless. He did not want to cheat a large-hearted and simple man like Anil , who had trusted him. He also wanted Anil to teach him to write simple sentences . He immediately came back to Anil’s house and placed the money as it was. Next morning , Anil gave him fifty rupees and told him that he would pay him regularly . Anil forgave him as he wanted to give him another chance to improve. THEME OF THE STORY The story, “THE THIEF BY RUSKIN BOND’’, is based on the theme of friendship, betrayal, aspirations, connection, trust, guilt, change, kindness, loyalty, revenge and honesty. The story is based on the fact that how love and kindness can transform even the most destructive minds of criminals and thief in this cruel world. CHARACTER SKETCH: HARI SINGH AND ARUN HARI SINGH: Hari Singh was a 15 years boy who was an experienced and successful thief. He was successful because of his intelligence and cleverness. He carefully planned everything before choosing his victims. He went to places where people would not able to suspect him and win their confidence to get job. At the end of this story, where he decides to come back to Anil and keep his trust alive. This shows that there is good in every bad person. ANIL: Anil was a kind , simple and easy-going young man. He was tall and of lean stature and interested in sports like Wrestling. He was not very rich. He had the patience and goodness to not only teach Hari Singh to cook but also to read, write and add numbers. He is generous and paid Hari when he get some money. He also has a forgiving nature. CONCLUSION The moral of the story by Ruskin Bond named ‘The Thief Story’ is human values and relations are Important in life and it can change a person . True values and kindness wins everyone heart , even a thief’s heart. THANK YOU
