What do you mean by Sports
Reporting?
 Sports journalism is a form of writing that
reports on matters pertaining to sporting topics
and competitions. Sports journalism started in
the early 1800s when it was targeted to the social
elite and transitioned into an integral part of the
news business with newspapers having dedicated
sports sections.
 The primary objective of sports journalism is
not to know about the environment of games or
sports, but to present the facts.

 The first and the foremost matter that a


journalist reports is the details about the event
or the tournament of the sport that they are
covering. For example Caribbean Series is a
Baseball event in which countries like Cuba,
Dominion Republic, Mexico, Puerto Rico, and
Venezuela, the prominent Latin American take
turns to host the series, usually held every
year in February.

 Be objective in reporting
 Avoid over stating facts and stay away from
opinions.
 Do not use words like "batting" or "troops." You
are covering a game not war.
 Capture the actions of an interesting game in
your words. Sports reporting allows greater scope
for writing skills than does other news reporting.
 Be alert while watching the game and look out for off-
beat happenings/incidents among spectators or
outside the stadium etc.
 Get the names right
 It there is any dispute, be sure to follow up later.
