CHANDIGARH

1 EXT. SHOPPING PLAZA, SECTOR 17- MORNING 1

We open on the Sector-17 Plaza which is one of the city's

oldest arcades, with a constant influx of visitors. This lane
also includes the very popular "Sagar Ratna", with Asia Book
House situated just around the other corner. This corner is a
delight to the eyes. We see vehicles driving nearby on this
sunny morning.

2 EXT. ASIA BOOK HOUSE, SECTOR 17-E - AFTERNOON 2

The bookstore, established in 1964 gives a vintage yet modern
vibe and has a raw feel to it. The palette of white and red,
contrasting against the black is a treat to the eyes.

3 INT. ASIA BOOK STORE, SECTOR - 17- E - MOMENTS LATER 3

VIPIN KINGER is the owner of the bookstore. He introduces
himself and tells us more about it.
VIPIN KINGER
Myself Vipin Kinger.I am the owner
of this bookstore. I have been
running this bookstore for almost
30-35 years. Actually, it was first
started in 1964 by my dad. I
assisted him for many years.
(continued)
My love for the books brought me in.
After he is no more, so now I am
fully running the bookstore on my
own.
INTERVIEWER (SUBTITLE) (O.C.)
What would you say is the best thing
about your job?
VIPIN KINGER
What is the best thing about my job?
(laughing, satisfactory)
I think, I mean it gives a good
amount of self-satisfaction. And it
is a "Perk with the Work"; like

reading and at the same time doing

business.

INTERVIEWER (SUBTITLE)
What is your favorite thing about
books? (in general)
VIPIN KINGER
I mean books, they broaden the
mental horizon. Reading is learning.
That is a very important aspect in
this. Have you read Voltaire or
Rousseau?
INTERVIEWER (O.C.)
I have heard but not read about it.
VIPIN KINGER (CONT'D)
Okay. Those were the two French
philosophers. Voltaire said that
ultimately books will rule the
world. In the sense, until and
unless we read, we cannot change our
thinking. So, in order to change our
thinking, we must read, and then we
can change the world. Reading and
books are going to be a big thing in
the coming times too.
INTERVIEWER (SUBTITLE)
What is the best-selling genre here?
VIPIN KINGER
The best-selling genre at this point
of time is self-improvement books.

INTERVIEWER
What genre of books do you prefer to
keep here?

VIPIN KINGER
The books that people want.

INTERVIEWER
Do you remember the first book you
ever sold?

VIPIN KINGER
I am here for the last 35 years. So,
the first book which I could
remember selling is "JONATHON
LIVINGSTON SEAGULL" by Richard Bach.

documentary 3.

INTERVIEWER
So you do remember?

VIPIN KINGER
(laughing)
Yes, definitely. And that is one of
my favorite books.
INTERVIEWER
What's the one book you can not stop
thinking about?

VIPIN KINGER
There are so many. But the one close
to my heart is "The Alchemist" by
Paulo Coelho. The meaning of the
book- the Alchemist, means a person
who converts base metal into gold.
And the author is using it as a
metaphor for putting dreams into
realities. It is a story of a 14-
year-old Spanish Shepherd boy, out
to achieve his dreams. Lots of
obstacles and distractions came in
the way and how he overcame those
and realized his dreams. The essence
of the book is if you are out to
achieve your dreams, then the
universe conspires for us to achieve
them. It is a fantastic book. I have
read it 3 to 4 times.

INTERVIEWER
Recommend a book.

VIPIN KINGER
(strolling, gathering
thoughts)

This is the book named "The Power of Now" written by the

Canadian writer Eckhart Tolle. This tells us about the
tendency of our mind, either to go into the past or the
future. It hardly remains in the present. He says our power
lies in the present. When we go into the past, it brings
guilt and when it goes into the future, it brings fear. How
to keep your mind centered and balanced is the main is what
he is telling us about. He tells that the egoistic part of
our mind has a pain-body emotion inside us, that troubles us
a lot. The techniques and strategies to deflate have been
given by the author.
This book is a favorite of Opera Winfrey. She is fascinated
by this book. She even called him on her show she is running
in America. She takes interviews with top people and one of

them is this man. This was the number 1 book in the best
books they chose. You can see Opera Winfrey has given a
comment in the Opera magazine, "A reminder to be truly
present in our own lives and liberated from our past and
future. It can transform your thinking and the result".
