What does this picture represent
1. This picture representing the percentage of time each spot on the surface was illuminated by the Sun.

2. Crater floors near the lunar south and north poles such as the Shackleton crater can remain in permanent shadow.

3. Mountain tops can remain in nearly continuous sunlight.

4. This information is useful for the creation of future outposts . As it hinted towards the potential use of shadowed crater floors to
create reservoirs of water-ice and the sunlit mountain to collect solar power.
How Was The
APOD Created
1. The Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter
spacecraft collected 1.7k images over a
period of 6 lunar days (6 Earth
months),
2. While collecting the photos they
focussed on repeatedly covering the
area centered on the Moon's south pole
from different angles.
3. The resulting images were stacked to a
Multitemporal image

5
Multi temporal Illumination maps
1. Multitemporal imaging is taking pictures of natural or built things from more than one
time period.
2. This allows us to take more accurately study the things and how they are changing
thought time.
3. This helps in studying things like climate change, geology, astronomy and
urbanization .
