Activity 1: It’s Getting Hot in Here!

DIRECTIONS: Read the situation below and do what is being asked.
The boy is living in the Philippines, located above the equator, while his godfather
is in a country that is located in the Southern Hemisphere. They often communicate with each
other to know how their lives are going on. His godfather informed him that their season is
about to change and told him that their company would be having an outing since the summer
season is about to begin. Due to his curiosity about the seasons mentioned by his godfather,
he wanted to see an illustration showing the position of the Earth with respect to the Sun
during the month of December.

a. Draw the position of the Earth with respect to the Sun during the month of December in
relation to his godfather’s location.

b. What hemisphere receives a greater amount of Sun’s direct rays?

c. Why do you think his godfather experiences a different season from the boy?
