INTRODUCTION
• An automobile company in Philadelphia, is the actual introducer of this building lifting
technique.

• This technique was introduced for the first time in Pennsylvania 1799 for the purpose of moving
a building.

• Lifting of house is the best solution for flood.

• Lifting of house is done with the help of jacks.

WHAT IS HOUSE LIFTING ?

Process of separating a building from its

foundation and temporarily raising it with
.hydraulic jacks
NECESSITY
1. When the road level is increased above the level
of building.
2. When the entry of water into the houses due to
floods. Therefore, in such cases relocation and
reconstruction is not the best option.
• There is solution to this problem & it would be
house lifting.
ACCESSORIES & EQUIPMENTS
USED
• Hydraulic jack
• Wooden block
• Channel beam
• Wooden plank
• Drilling Machine
METHODOLOGY

• Firstly, take all the useful information about the

building.
• Study the weak members and members of the
building .
• Then load calculation of the building is done.
•Before elevating, disconnect the supplies of the building
like electricity, gas connection, drainage connection etc…
for the safety of the people working.

•At first the excavation is done near the walls for the
application of the jacks.

• The jacks are applied in the space of the excavation and

the house is lifted by jacking the jacks simultaneously

•The jacks are removed and parallel brick masonry is

done to support the lifting.
•After that, flooring is done.

•After the completion of the flooring ,the

supply connections are connected.

•After the lifting of the house is done, the

cracks are filled with the cement grouting.
ADVANTAGES
• cheap and effective
• House can be easily lifted without any damage.
• Building is protected against flood.
• Saved lakhs of rupees and valuable time.
DISADVANTAGES

• Not applicable for skyscrapers, high raised buildings.

• Applicable only for G+4 floor building.
• House lifting is a risky job. So ordinary workers cannot be
employed for this work.
CONCLUSION
• Construction by method of house lifting is cheaper than usual construction
method and saving time. Hence it is preferred to use house lifting method
for repairing of foundation and increasing Plinth height for residential
building.
• Finally, the house raised by using hydraulic jacks doesn’t cause any
damage to the structure. Hence it will be safe in future against flooding.
