SOFTWARE SUITE
A software suite is a collection
of two or more software titles
or programs bundled and sold
together. The programs may
have correlative features and
functionality, or they may be
completely different, but share
a similar theme
EXAMPLES OF A SOFTWARE
SUITE
Microsoft office
Adobe creative cloud
Google G suite
ADVANTAGES OF A
SOFTWARE SUITE
A software suite provides several advantages for users, including
the following.
Lower bundled cost compared to buying each program
separately. Some software suites are even free to use, like the
Google productivity and OpenOffice suites.
Developed by the same company, often providing synergy and
compatibility of some features between the programs in the suite.
ADVANTAGES OF A
SOFTWARE SUITE
Similar user interface in each program, reducing the learning
curve and improving familiarity.
More efficient acquisition process by installing all programs at
once, instead of one at a time.
May include additional features or add-on programs not available
for purchase separately.
DISADVANTAGES OF A
SOFTWARE SUITE
Not all purchased features are always used by the user[2]
Takes a significant amount of disk space, as compared to buying
only the needed packages
Requires effort to use the packages together
THINGS TO CONSIDER WHEN
CHOOSING A SUITE
Whether you’re switching software suites, or choosing one for the
first time, be sure to consider these factors:
Cost: How many users will you need to pay for and how often do
you wish to pay?
Functionality: What are the main tasks that a suite could help you
with? Will you use it for creating documents and traditional office
tasks, or for audio or visual tasks?
THINGS TO CONSIDER WHEN
CHOOSING A SUITE
Necessity: Do you really need all the applications in a suite, or
just a few?
Data: Would you prefer to share and store data via a cloud service
or through other means?
Adoption: How quickly will your company adapt to the suite?
Will they need training for any of the applications that they’ll need
to use?
