People from all over the world can use
these online tools to learn and
communicate with friends and other
people. It is also very helpful in doing
business but it is important to be safe
online. There are many deceitful
individuals who put up false information
or use other people’s personal information
for illegal activities.

•Use the computer


or mobile devices
for learning,
studying, and
researching for
information.
• Keepyour password
safe. Make sure all
personal information
and password private.
Be careful in sharing
your personal
information. Never put
any contact details
online and ensure
passwords are difficult
to guess.
•Most sites only allow
participants who are
at least 13 years old.
Children should be
guided by their
parents or adults in
accessing websites.
•Respect others
and treat them the
way you would like
to be treated.
•Donot copy other
people’s work. If
you want to use
materials from
someone else, make
sure to cite the
author or source.
•Do not make
untrue remarks
that embarrass
others.
•Do not use
other
people’s
account.
•Do not share
another person’s
full name or
send his or her
photo without
permission.
•If
you are the
moderator, post
the rules for the
participants; if you
are a participant
follow the rules or
netiquette.
•Use your time
wisely; avoid
playing
unnecessary
games. When you
are finished, turn
the computer off.
•Take a rest
every two hours
when using the
computer.
Stand up and
stretch.
•Forcomputer
security, install
and use a trusted
antivirus software
especially when
you are online.
•Beaware of the
rules and
regulations, laws
and accounting
standards of your
country or other
countries, as well
as where you
intend to conduct
your business.
•Donot spam or mass
mail especially when
you want to promote
your product. Instead,
create a web page or
website that will
contain all product and
service information
including pictures.
•Be cautious of the
messages or emails
that you receive from
strangers and
unknown sources.
Always check or verify
all information and
data. The best way to
do this is to check the
website and make sure
it is a reliable source.
•Tell a trusted
adult if anything
online makes
you feel
uncomfortable
or threatened.
Here are some of the dangers and threats on
the internet that need to be avoided.
•Spam Email is also
known as junk email,
which involve
unsolicited commercial
correspondence flooding
your account.
•Pharming is a
dangerous hacker
attack on the
website which
leads all traffic
intended for that
website to
another dummy
website.
• Computer Virus
is a malicious
program that
infects and
destroy a
computer system.
Hacker is a person
who is entering
and controlling
other people’s
computer system
without permission
to sabotage a
person’s website or
steal personal
information.
What is a WIKI?
This is a website that collaborative in
nature. It means that a user or anyone using
this website can participate or work jointly
with a creator or author of a written work in a
wiki. It can add, modify, edit, delete, revise
or update some of the content of the work of
the creator or author of that work.
What is a WIKI?
The term wiki was
originally named Wiki
wiki Web. This was
introduced by Ward
Cunningham in 1995.
This was came from the
Hawaiian “Wiki wiki”
which means fast or
swift.

Wikipedia – It contains
information of practically
all kinds of topics or
subjects from arts to
sciences, from reality to
fiction, from history to
literature to production
and manufacturing and
anything under the sun.
Library Blog Wiki -this
wiki deals with the way
blogs and wikis are
used. These are used in
Australian libraries.
Charles Sturt Library
Wiki – this wiki is
used by students and
staff of Charles Sturt
Library.
Tolkien Wiki – this
wiki is exclusive for
the readers of the
novels of JRR
Tolkien.

Step 2. Create an account and log in.
Step 3. Find where to put your
information.
Step 4. Upload.
Step 5. Get the link to your file.
Step 6. Add file link to your
entry.
Step 7. Proofread your page and
make sure the link works.
What is a Blog?
A blog is a type of website in the internet
which also goes by the name of the weblog.
This type of website contains writers who
tell about their personal experiences, their
thoughts, feelings, ideas, opinions, and
observations about certain places, events,
things or issues they have been involved in.
What are specific topics/issues found in
each type of blog?
Fashion blog – contains
trends in fashion, seasonal
clothing, new fashion
styles/designs from well-
known brands, prices
where to source and the
like.
Travel blog- contains travelling
experiences to both local and
international places
accompanied with pictures
including beautiful sceneries,
places to eat, hotels and
lodging, shops, and
directions how to go there
for the internet users.
Music blog – contains
updates in album releases
of popular singers or
bands. It features music
from indie, rock, pop and
songs from local and
international artists.
Food blog – contains
places to eat popular
menus or recipes that
bloggers love and how
to go to the
caterings/restaurants.
Beauty Blog –
contains beauty
products, how they
are used and what
they do to the skin,
face and body.
How to start a blog? Here are steps on how
to start a blog:
1. Pick your blog’s name and
niche. Your blog’s niche is the
general topic area that you’ll be
focusing your content around.
2. Get your blog online
3. Design your blog with a free
WordPress theme. Write your first
blog post
4. Promote your blog
5. Develop a successful blog content
strategy
6. Commit to a regular
publishing schedule on your
blog
7. Use a free photos and
design to make your blog
post and stand out
