WHAT IS SPSS?
SPSS software is used to perform quantitative analysis and is used as a complete
statistical package that is based on a point and click interface. SPSS is short for
Statistical Package for the Social Sciences, and it's used by various kinds of
researchers for complex statistical data analysis. The SPSS software package
was created for the management and statistical analysis of social science data.
SPSS FOR DATA ANALYSIS

SPSS provides data analysis for descriptive and

bi variate statistics, numeral outcome predictions
and predictions for identifying groups. The
software also provides data transformation, graphing
and direct marketing features. The software interface
displays open data similarly to a spreadsheet in its
main view.
SKILLS NEEDED TO DO QUANTITATIVE
ANALYSIS
 Basics of statistics. Strengthen your understanding of quantitative data analysis.
 SPSS Interface. Get familiar with the various panels, menus, editor and output viewer of the
package.
 Apply tests. Based on your dataset apply simple and complex statistical tests.
 Interpret results.
 Troubleshoot.
STEPS TAKEN WHEN ANALYSING QUANTITATIVE DATA WITH
SPSS
STEP 1 AND 2

1. Load your excel file with all the data. Once

you have collected all the data, keep the
excel file ready with all data inserted using
the right tabular forms.

2. Import the data into SPSS. You need to

import your raw data into SPSS through your
excel file. Once you import the data, the SPSS
will analyse it.

3. Give specific SPSS commands. Based on what you

want to examine, you can give desired commands
as per the requisitions in the SPSS software. Each
tool has guidelines on how it should be used and
you can feed in all the options to get the most
accurate results. Giving commands in SPSS is
simple and easy to comprehend, making it an easy
task for students to do this by themselves.

4. Retrieve the results. The results from the

software are given efficiently and accurately,
providing researchers a better idea of
appropriate future studies and a direction for
moving forward.

5. Analyse the graphs and

charts. Understanding the results can
be a little difficult. but you can get help
from professors and peers with the
analysis. You can also consult a
professional company which is expert
in SPSS.

6. Postulate conclusions based on your

analysis. The ultimate objective of the SPSS
is to help arrive at conclusions based on
specific research. The software helps you to
derive conclusions and predict the future
easily with minimum statistical deviation.
TYPES OF DATA
1.Nominal Data.:
 These are data which classify or categorise some
attribute they may be coded as numbers but the
numbers has no real meaning, its just a label they have
no default or natural order. Examples:, town of

CONCLUSION
Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS) is
one of the most used statistical analysis software by
social scientists all over the world. After its inception
fifty-odd years ago, it has gone through several
changes according to the need of social science
researchers. The need for accuracy and perfection in
data representation in quantitative data analysis forced
its creators to make it not only feature-rich but user-
friendly as well.
