back-to-basics approach.
 Essentialism teach us the core objectives is for the stidents to learn the essential
( which can change over time )
 Three Basic Principles

According to Johnson et. al. (2011), the three basic principles of essentialism are:
 A core of information,
 Hard work and mental discipline.
 Teacher-centered instruction.
 Philosophical View on Essentialism
 Essentialism is a philosophical view that one’s decisions should be made deliberately
and carefully, with consideration of the long-term consequences. This view of
decision-making is based on the assumption that each individual’s choices should be
based on his or her own values and goals, rather than allowing other people’s agendas
to take precedence.
 Essentialism is often seen as a way of life, and is based on the idea of “living
intentionally”. This means that one should strive to be mindful of the implications of
his or her decisions and act in accordance with his or her own values and beliefs.
Essentialists reject the notion of “living recklessly”, or making decisions without
considering the consequences.
