Synthesis of cidofovir
 Penciclovir • It used for the treatment of various herpesvirus infections.

• Because penciclovir is absorbed poorly when given orally, it is more

often used as a topical treatment.

• But this problem is solved by producing a prodrug of penciclovir which

is famciclovir (has better oral absorption).
